This year, 120 thousand tourists have already visited the Chernobyl exclusion zone. 80% of toutists were foreigners. This is reported by Ukrinform, referring to the Head of the State Agency of Ukraine on the Exclusion Zone Management, Oleksandr Kovalchuk.
The State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone reports that 107,000 people have visited the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone since the beginning of the year. The record was set in October. Factors that have influenced the increase in tourist flow are the simplification of the procedure of permitting, the introduction of electronic pass, the creation of additional infrastructure and increased interest in the Chornobyl NPP after the release of the mini-series HBO "Chernobyl”.
Soon tourists will be able to enjoy balloon excursions in Chornobyl, it is planned to organize excursions for tourists on balloons. This is reported by Segodnya. According to Vitaly Petruk, who until recently headed the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone, balloon trips are safer than walking tours there.
According to the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, Chornobyl tourism has reached a new record. In August 2019, 14 416 people visited the area. The number of tourists has increased by five times since the beginning of the year: less than 3,000 people per month visited the area in January-February, and since March the number of tourists has grown rapidly.
