Wisdom tooth problems

The wisdom tooth is the third molar tooth, which appears later than the other teeth, and sometimes does not erupt at all. A person cannot have more than 4 wisdom teeth. The approximate age when tthese teeth grow is 18 - 27 years. They are called so because they begin to erupt in the period from ages 18 to 30. Scientists consider them a rudimentary organ that does not carry any functional load when chewing food. Usually impacted wisdom teeth, which grow horizontally in the jaw, cause discomfort. They don't have enough space to cut through and press on adjacent teeth. As a result, the entire dentition is displaced. Moreover, they severely injure the gums, which leads to chronic inflammation.

Most often, wisdom teeth begin to grow during the teens or early twenties. Although some people do not have such teeth at all. This is due to the fact that these teeth are a rudimentary organ that has long lost its importance in the process of evolution. However, if you are not one of these lucky ones, then you can recognize the appearance of the third molars by the following symptoms:

• Swelling, itching and inflammation of the gums behind the last tooth
• Pain in the jaw, radiating to the ear
• Swollen lymph nodes
• Temperature increase
• Painful swallowing
• Difficulty opening your mouth

There are a few reasons for this. Some of them are:

• Dystopia. Due to the wrong position during eruption, the soft tissues of the cheek are injured, and bite deformities can also appear.

• Retention. Late eruption affects the patient's general well-being.

• Pericoronitis. Inflammation of the gums occurs when the tooth erupts. Soreness, swelling and redness appear.

• Caries. It is quite difficult to qualitatively remove plaque from the surface of a wisdom tooth, since it is placed far away. The result is caries.

Many people wonder if they need to get their "extra" teeth removed. Of course, if they cause some problems, it will be the best desicion. But if third molars have grown correctly, and it is also possible to carry out treatment, in this case, such teeth can be saved.
