NASA took pictures of Oleshky Sands. The satellite Landsat 8 photographed a unique sand massif from space located 30 km from Kherson. It is reported that the photos were taken on June 15, 2019. From space, this Ukrainian mini-desert looks like an egg of sand color. The desert looks really unique.
The Oleshky Sands are located in Kherson Oblast. This is the biggest sand area in Ukraine and one of the largest deserts of Europe. The sands are thought to be formed during the most recent ice age by aeolian processes accumulating and forming cliffs of lower parts of nearby river Dnieper.
