The 2019 Venice International Film Festival has recently announced its award winners. The Golden Lion, the festival’s top laureate, went to Todd Phillips' dark comic book film "Joker". The Horizons best film award went to the Ukrainian film "Atlantis," directed by Valentyn Vasyanovych. This is reported on the official website of the festival.
Valentyn Vasyanovych is a scriptwriter, director, cameraman and producer of the film. The producers are also Iya Myslytska and Volodymyr Yatsenko. It was filmed in January-March 2018, mainly in Mariupol. The story tells about a near-future Ukraine's victory in its war with Russia and a soldier suffering from PTSD who has lost his family, home and the very meaning of life in the war.
