Do you want to learn more about Ukrainian traditions and customs? On August 11, 2019 "Honey Festival to Makoviya" festival will be held at the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine. Guests of the museum will be able to taste and purchase honey and other bee products brought from different parts of Ukraine.
The festival will feature typical Makoviya holiday dishes of traditional Ukrainian cuisine, including a cake with poppy seed and honey, varenyky and pies with poppy seeds, apples with honey, etc. Apart from this, guests will be able to get acquainted with the ancient traditional Ukrainian ceremonies such as making of ceremonial bouquets "makoviychyk" and round dances around the traditional symbol of Makoviy holiday. The celebration program also includes performances of folk groups from different parts of Ukraine.
Traditionally, in August Ukrainians celebrate three Saviour feasts: the Honey Feast of the Savior (on 14 August), the Apple Feast of the Savior (on the 19 August) and the Nut Feast of the Savior (on 29 August). The Honey Feast of the Savior is also known in Ukraine as "Makoviya". On these days people carry water, flowers, honey and other products to the church to have them blessed.
